Andhra Pradesh: 12 MLAs, 3 MLCs surrender gunmen

The issue was raised at TD district meeting held here at Eluru on Sunday, chaired by TD district president T. Seetharamalakshmi.

Kakinada: West Godavari MLAs of the ruling TD party have sent their gunmen back to the department in protest against district Superintendent of Police Mr Bhaskar Bhushan and the police.

As many as 12 MLAs and three MLCs took the decision, expressing concern over booking cases against Tanuku MLA A. Radhakrishna. They expressed anger over the police actions and they made allegations against the SP.

According to sources, cases were booked against the Tanuku MLA on charges of wrongful confinement of two police personnel Iragavaram Police Sub-Inspector Mr Srinivasa Rao and police writer Prateep Kumar.

The issue was raised at TD district meeting held here at Eluru on Sunday, chaired by TD district president T. Seetharamalakshmi. Though in-charge minister Parthipati Pulla Rao and Labour Minister Pithani Satyanarayana tried to pacify them not to resort to take such decisions, the MLAs did not hear their voice.

MLA Radhakrishna alleged that the SP was running a parallel government in the district and encouraging the police to book cases against TD workers. Though a probation sub-inspector wanted to go back from his existing place, the SP did not relieve him, he said and added that he did question the circle inspector and the sub-inspector in a case, but he did not confine them.

He asked why the police confined and booked cases against Dalit women and arrested them in midnight. He also found fault with the West Godavari Police Officers’ Association for questioning him in the case as the association had no powers due to lack of elections for the past five years.

He made it clear that he had not committed any mistake and he would not bow his head to anybody. If party elders, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and N. Lokesh believe in the police action, he would tender his resignation, he said.

He alleged that the police could not do any action against the cricket betting mafia and other mafias in the district. Nidadavolu MLA Burugupalli Sesharao leveled allegations against the SP that he wants to make West Godavari into Bihar. He alleged that the SP kept aside sincere officials and appointed police officials who face corruption charges. He made it clear that the security gunmen would be sent back to the police department until Radhakrishna’s issue is resolved.

Police dept not ready to accept them. West Godavari Superintendent of Police Mr. Bhaskar Bhushan has said though the MLAs want to send their security gunmen back, the Police department has not accepted their return.

He told this reporter that the security gunmen were directed to attend to their respective MLA’s security duties. He said the decision would be taken by the police higher authorities who sanctioned security to MLAs.

Speaking about the cases against Tanuku MLA A. Radhakrishna, he said the police acted as per law and all the people who attended the Tanuku MLA’s meeting on May 18 knew about the incident.
